How to fix the 'NotAllowedError'
What is NotAllowedError?
This error occurs when the browser is blocked from accessing your camera or microphone due to permission issues:
- You clicked "Block" when asked for camera/microphone access
- Your browser's site permissions are set to deny access
- Your system privacy settings are blocking access
- Your organization's policies are restricting access
Please select your operating system or browser:
Windows
1. Check Windows Privacy Settings:
- Press Win + I to open Settings
- Click Privacy & Security
- Select Camera
- Ensure these are turned ON:
- • Camera access for this device
- • Let apps access your camera
- Repeat the same steps for Microphone
2. Check Group Policy (Work/School Devices):
- Ask your IT administrator if camera/mic access is restricted
- Request an exemption if needed for your work
- Check if you're signed in with a restricted account
3. Check Antivirus Settings:
- Open your antivirus software
- Look for Privacy Protection or Webcam Protection
- Add your browser to the allowed applications
- Temporarily disable webcam protection to test
Mac
1. Check System Preferences:
- Apple menu → System Settings
- Click Privacy & Security
- Select Camera
- Ensure your browser is checked
- Repeat for Microphone
2. Reset Privacy Settings:
- Quit the browser completely
- Go to Privacy & Security
- Uncheck then recheck your browser for Camera/Microphone
- Restart the browser
3. Check Screen Recording (if sharing screen):
- Go to Privacy & Security
- Select Screen Recording
- Ensure your browser is allowed
- Restart the browser after making changes

- Try using a different browser
- Check if you're using a managed device (work/school laptop)
- Look for any security software blocking access
- Clear all browser data and restart
- Try creating a new browser profile
